About the NC Ukulele Calendar

There's a ukulele craze sweeping America -- and much of the world, for that matter. But if you're a ukulele enthusiast, you have to keep your eyes and ears open for the occasional, fleeting uke event happening in your town.

You can go out any night almost anywhere and easily find a guitar-based band or solo artist to enjoy. Not so with the ukulele, despite this little instrument's growing popularity.

This web site and its calendar grew from my own frustration with learning about ukulele events too late, like a couple of days after a one-night-only performance by some visiting performer. By creating a public ukulele calendar, I figured to put pressure on myself to do whatever it took to "capture" all of the upcoming uke events in my state. The result is the North Carolina Ukulele Calendar, which I hope and believe will also meet the needs of fellow fans.

If you'd like to help me with my mission,

1. Use the contact form (via that button up on the right there) to submit information about any North Carolina ukulele events that you know of.

2. Spread the word about this site to other uke fans -- send 'em the URL, put a flyer about us on the wall of your music store, etc. etc.

That's about it, except to invite you to return here often to learn about newly added ukulele concerts, jams and workshops.

About me:

I took up the ukulele a few years ago when a family member gave me one for Christmas. I've turned into a pretty good strummer, if I do say so. Now if I could just learn to sing ...

I'm a member of UUkes, an informal group that gets together at the Community Church of Chapel Hill (Unitarian Universalist, hence the UUkes name). As a non-musician for most of my life, it has been a pleasure to play the ukulele with the other folks during some special events at the church.

Not much else to say, except: Welcome to the North Carolina Ukulele Calendar. Let's hear from you!
